Israel - Lebanon from other points of view

Here at Internal Monogue, I discuss various conflicts and wars in pretty abstract terms. I don't usually know the land or the people involved. I can look at military strategy, pass along Maniak's expert observations about rocketry hardware, and see what other blogs are talking or not talking about. I think this detatchment can get dangerous, because from this detatched position you can be very removed from the horror of killing.

I think it's very easy, even for those of us who desperately want the killing to stop, to nonetheless get caught up in war fervor. How many rockets? Who bombed what? What's the US reaction? How much pressure is Mubarak under, and from who? The whole thing can become some sort of gruesome football game, with bloggers as the armchair quarterbacks.

In an effort to counteract this tendency, I want to link to some different places than is usual for me. Here's the blog of poet Shailja Patel, a poet and spoken word artist who is very critical of Israel in a way that you don't hear from many American media sources and blogs (at least the ones I frequent). I've seen her perform and she is a powerful artist. Shailja links to MoorishGirl, who is also worth taking a look at.
