Atheist of the Day: Pete Stark (D-CA)

Representative Pete Stark (D-CA)

Time to move away from adult film superstars and back to politics for today's Atheist of the Day. Pete Stark, the Democratic representative for Fremont (a Bay Area Suburb) described himself as "a Unitarian who does not believe in a Supreme Being", which is certainly enough to qualify for this popular Internal Monologue feature. Bonus points of course for being a member of my own religious denomination; once again Unitarians are on the forefront of progress! Pete Stark has the honor of attaining higher office than any other declared unbeliever in in the United States, according to an inquiry by the Secular Coalition of America. Let us hope that with Mr. Stark's help, atheism will soon no longer be an impediment to participating in our nations' politics.
