Bush is a war criminal: more mainstream than you think

Yes, Bush is a war criminal, and the meme is creeping outward. This isn’t just fringe lefties saying it. The Supreme Court itself laid the foundations for it. Glen Greenwald has an excellent post on the subject:
Beyond that, the Supreme Court in Hamdan deliberately laid at least the theoretical foundation for high officials in the Bush administration to be charged with war crimes. They expressly ruled that the military commissions violate those Conventions, and if any prisoners were to be executed by virtue of commissions which violated Common Article 3, or if detainees are deliberately and systematically mistreated in violation of that provision, that would be a war crime, by definition. I simply don't believe that there are government officials who are subjected to those sorts of suggestions from the U.S. Supreme Court who are not taking them seriously.
Talk about this. Because if and when indictments start coming down, we want people to be ready for the idea. We want them to say, “Yes, of course” or at least “Well, there are good reasons for it.” We don’t want them saying “Huh? What? How could that be?” When you torture foreign captives as a matter of policy, then you are a criminal and should be punished. Especially when you do so without any knowledge of whether they are innocent or guilty. America’s moral spirit would soar if it could purge itself of the evil that is festering, thriving even, under this administration.

My hope is that indictments come from within our country and our legal system. Other countries may beat us to it, and that would turn this into a whole us vs. them thing. It’s not. It’s moral us vs. immoral us.
