Iraq despair
It was an awful idea to invade. It’s awful now. And things seem sliding towards open genocide. What can we do to stop it? Impose curfews and martial law? Bribe people into cooling off? Even some neocons are apparently admitting it’s hopeless (via Atrios). The question is always, what can we do now? I don’t see anything at this point. A massive influx of troops? A building program? If anyone has any ideas that they could get this administration to try, now is the time.
There’s also the question of accountability: whose fault is this? The people doing the killing, of course. But whose fault is it that we’re in the middle of it, yet unable to prevent it? George Bush’s fault, and all those who planned, supported, and cheerled this travesty of an occupation.
