EXTRA! Internal Monologue praises Vatican, criticizes Sen. Boxer!

I’ve been beating up on the Catholic Church a lot recently, and I think their ridiculousness deserves it. But in the spirit of fair play, I should mention the good that they do. The Vatican firmly opposed the Iraq invasion. A lot of churches said the same thing. (I suppose this makes all these Christians traitors, according to the current Republican classification system.) I applaud their stand for peace and justice, and their ability to see through all the propaganda and call the Iraq invasion what was: “a defeat for humanity which could not be morally or legally justified.”

In a sort of mirror-image case, Barbara Boxer, normally a staunch hero of the progressive blogosphere, has been annoying the crap out of us by throwing in her lot with Lieberman. What’s up with that? Well, one theory is that Senate Democrats are just being nice to Joe in case he ends up being able to throw control of the Senate to Republicans. But still, isn’t that just more reason to have him replaced with a real Democrat? Boxer has been one of the most outspoken opponents of the invasion and occupation. Why would she throw her weight behind a Bush-kissing war hawk like Lieberman?
